Strategy Resumes Bitcoin Buying With 950 BTC Purchase at $79,670
Michael Saylor's Strategy broke a three-week buying pause, acquiring 950 Bitcoin for $75.7 million before Monday's rally above $85,000.
Strategy disclosed in a Monday SEC filing that it purchased 950 Bitcoin for $75.7 million between September 14 and 20, ending a roughly three-week pause that was its longest gap since August 31. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor's firm paid an average of $79,670 per coin, funded entirely from existing USD Cash reserves rather than new share issuances, bringing total company holdings to 846,000 BTC acquired for an aggregate $63.80 billion at a blended average of $75,416.
The timing of the purchase drew immediate attention because Bitcoin surged past $85,000 on Monday — an eight-month high fueled by a wave of short liquidations — meaning Strategy locked in its coins well below where the market subsequently printed. The company resumed accumulation as prices were already recovering from a dip near $75,000, not at the lowest point of the recent pullback, though the filing does not indicate whether the entry was deliberately calibrated ahead of the rally.

At $75.7 million, the transaction is modest relative to Strategy's $63.80 billion total Bitcoin position, signaling program continuity rather than an aggressive fresh allocation. The same week's filing revealed the company deployed its cash broadly: $174.0 million from its USD Cash account went toward repurchasing STRC stock, while $57.4 million from a separate USD Reserve funded preferred dividends and interest payments. As of September 20, the USD Reserve stood at $5.04 billion and USD Cash at $1.05 billion.
MSTR shares climbed Monday alongside the broader crypto market rally, though analysts noted the stock's move tracked Bitcoin's price action more than this specific purchase announcement. Strategy has maintained a pattern of buying through both advancing and declining markets, and the resumed accumulation reinforces that the firm views any sub-$80,000 level as an opportunity to add to what is already the largest corporate Bitcoin treasury on record.
